About the American Childhood Cancer Organization

ACCO is the nation's oldest and largest grassroots childhood cancer organization. 


Childhood cancer is the number one death by disease for children in America.  The majority of survivors face lifelong complications from their treatments.  Despite advances in medicine, some types of cancer remain incurable. 


In the last five years, ACCO has secured $72.4 million in state-based appropriations for childhood cancer research. Our goal is to expand the "What About Kids?" initiative across the country, including Massachusetts. ACCO doesn't just fund research, but also distributes free resources to the families of children with cancer.  These resources are specialized to educate and comfort the child and the whole family, delivering age-appropriate medical information and therapeutic tools.


So why do we GO GOLD®? Children are more precious than gold, and thus the gold ribbon is the international symbol for childhood cancer.  Did you know that many states don't think childhood cancer is a problem worth addressing? Raising awareness is a crucial part of securing research funding.



About Lily

On June 18, 2022, Lily was diagnosed with B-Cell ALL. She was immediately admitted to the hospital to start treatment and stayed in the hospital for 40 days straight.

During her hospital stay, Lily got two blood infections, pneumonia and was admitted to the ICU. Lily's mother, Liz said, "she kept such a positive attitude throughout our entire stay. I never left the hospital once because I didn't want to leave her or have her go through anything without me."

Lily is now entering her continuation phase of treatment.
